You are never too old to start International TaekwonDo. The best thing to do is to come along and watch a class and know that you can take things at your own pace. The most important thing is that you feel good about the training and that you make progress on a physical and mental level.
Yes, you should make the Instructor aware. Also, when you join up you will fill out an application form that will ask you to list any medical conditions.
When you first begin, just wear comfortable clothing. Trackpants and t-shirt is fine. Our instructors will guide you with regards to when you need to get a uniform.
Our School offers the TaeKwonDo Kids Program to students as young as 3 years old.
Children are taught that TaekwonDo is not about violence – but instead about developing skills they can use safely in a tough situation. Any aggression the child brings in to the program usually disappears with continued training and increased self-esteem. We emphasise the tenets of TaekwonDo: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control and Indomitable Spirit.
Our students must pass a grading to earn a higher rank. These gradings are nationally and internationally recognized by the National TaekwonDo Federation and the International TaekwonDo Federation and are held approximately every 2-3 months. Children under 6 years are part of our TaekwonDo Kids Program, and have a modified ranking system.
As a general guide, you can expect to pay around the range of $65 – $95 per month, depending on the number of classes, sessions and times/week. Uniforms cost around $75.
Parents are always welcome to stay during their children’s class as long as they are neither disruptive nor distracting. We, as instructors want the students and parents to be comfortable with class, and can do our best job when we have the undivided and complete attention of the students, but if the child is continuously running to his/her parent, this could be a problem. A benefit for the children to having their parent watch is that the parents can help their children at home.
